One card to hold them all: Metro passes, Foothill passes, Santa Clarita passes... even electronic cash.
The durable plastic TAP card contains a smart chip that allows you to buy and electronically load Metro passes, regional and local transit line passes, and even electronic cash. In other words, TAP becomes your "transit fare wallet". To see who currently accepts TAP and who's scheduled to get on board soon, click here.
Is my pass valid on all who accept TAP?
While your TAP card is the convenient way to store all your essential passes on one card, you still need to have the appropriate local or regional transit line pass (or electronic cash) loaded onto your card in order to ride that specific line. In other words, Foothill passes loaded onto TAP cards are valid only on Foothill busses, Santa Clarita passes loaded onto TAP cards are valid only on Santa Clarita busses and Metro passes loaded onto TAP cards are valid only on Metro busses and trains.
How to load a day pass onto your TAP card
Loading a day pass onto your TAP card is easy. Simply, ask the driver, insert your money into the farebox, wait for the driver to push the button, tap your card on the validator pad, and go. It’s that easy. Watch the video.
